Hello Dennis

Just agreeing with what Jack and others say. Legacy is a great programme to use. I have tried a few but I like this one, even though I havent found the need for the deluxe version yet. (Soon, very soon)

I have included half siblings in my legacy programme, there is that option there.

As Jack said you can set anyone as the source, so when I gave my brothers and sister a copy of what I had done, I set them each as the source then saved it as a .ged. Makes it easy to send to others, in fact I even sent one to a cousin back in Scotland setting her as source.

Hi All.

I really appreciate all of the input that you are taking the time to enter here.

I'm wondering if it is a useful thing to include the BCs MCs & DCs from SP in one's tree?

All these programs! Where can I find them??? I need a tree surgeon! I drew up a family tree on graph paper, probably used half a leadmine and half a rubber plantation in the process.

Hi Dennis,

Here’s the website:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp

Just click the following:
Order/download products
Software Downloads/Free
# 77065000-S Personal Ancestral File 5.2.18.0 - Multi-Language (9.7 MB)
# 50128000-S Personal Ancestral File Companion 5.2 Evaluation Version (8.46 MB)

If you decide to use this software remember to set the date format to European style otherwise your dates will be in U.S. format. If I recall correctly, the Companion File evaluation version lets you print only one or two generations at a time so you might want to consider getting the full version at some point…it’s only about $8.

Regards,
AnneH

Hi there , I started with Legacy 4 and upgraded to 5 from the Family search site.Shortly after my program fried and I had to start again. This time I used Family Tree Maker and its a very easy program to use much like the legacy in fact. You can do both Drop line charts and Horizontal charts. It also has a relationship calculator. However I really liked how easy it was to access the Family serch site unlike the FTM program which only takes you to Ancestry. As I have no American or English ancestors this isn't much use to me so I reloaded my Legacy and now have the best of both. :D

Hi HeatherK,
I started with Legacy 4 and upgraded to 5 from the Family search site.Shortly after my program fried and I had to start again.
That couldn’t have been pleasant! I on the otherhand have been using PAF 5 for a couple of years now with no problems…but just in case, I have my file backed up on a CD.

Regards,
AnneH
