I put my hand up. I posted about your dictionary being corrupted by the virus to create disenable out of disable, then edited it when I checked and found the word. After second thoughts, I deleted the post, not to avoid looking stupid (which I frequently am), but in case it was not thought to be tongue-in-cheek.

Although my New Gresham English Dictionary (new in 1930!) has disenable as meaning disable, I see the difference.

My anti-virus program has just picked up that two files in a program I rarely use have been "converted" into Trojans.

If any of you have Sightspeed (mine was an extra with my Webcam) and don't have AV installed, please don't use it till you have.

I used to be suspicious but now I'm paranoid :!: , this to the extent that I must have deleted an email with a research commission a few days ago, - thankfully the sender lives in the UK and later phoned me.

OK, so my 'puter's frustratingly a wee bit slower given that more often that not Norton is running in the background (what with the external backup HD there's ca. 80Gb of files to check), and then I've also got AVG installed ............ Yes, I know that I could use one of a number of methods to avoid that, - including the system where an email can't be accepted until you have approved the address, but my paranoia makes me wonder if such systems are truly infallible ............

Unfortunately, David, for every new AV or spyware blocker or update that is released the numpties eventually come up with some way to bypass them.

My AVG obviously didn't manage to stop the Trojan getting in, but it did find it when it ran it's full scan and very promptly sorted it out.

Strangely, one of the two files in Sightspeed which had been changed was the uninstall .exe file. I have no idea what the other one did. I'm assuming its altered form would have stopped the app working and got me to try and run install thereby activating the Trojan.

Very sadly true.

Never a truer word was written as regards these ******** ****** ****** numpties (replace "******" with every last wee swearie that you know), most of whom are "trivial" in that their only objective is to gain recognition on the www for their "clever" email; but, then, there's always a small but [increasingly??] significant proportion whose motive is to hack your personal details, with all that then can follow in terms of most unfortunate consequences ..........
