When I try to save an image to a particular folder I get a message " You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the Administrator to obtain permission."

Hello Ina,Ina wrote:Hi Dennis,
What are you trying to save, and where are your trying to save it?
Ina
It was a 1901 census image for John K Paterson and I was tring to save it into the folder whee I keep all my genealogy data. I finally got it sorted out by turning off the User Account Control temporarily.
All the best. dennis

Vista has done the same to me and keeps saying I dont have permission to look at my own documents. Wish I had stayed on XP.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I finally took the plunge and bought a new laptop (old one finally died
)
It came with Vista, but NOT already installed. It was sitting waiting for me to boot up and it pretty much asked me if I wanted to install it
Heart in mouth, I decided to go ahead and it did it's thing, but I was asked for a username and told to provide the password I wanted. So far, so good.
The result was that I was automatically "Administrator"!
My daughter bought a new lappy (same manufacturer but different model) a while ago with Vista already installed! She found that she couldn't do a lot of the things "admin" should be able to do and discovered it was because it had been set up that way.
I've never come across this kind of factory setup before and she contacted the manufacturer. Seems it wasn't their standard setup and they suggested that the retailer had done it! The retailer accused the manufacturer!
However, both suggested to try logging in as admin with admin as the password. It worked and we changed the setup.
We searched the user guide and found no indication as to why this had been done.
