HELP NEEDED AGAIN

Post by wini » Fri Sep 28, 2007 3:33 am

I thought I would have a quick look at the new Free Headers for the OPR's last night.
I use direct down load and I have Broadband but it was taking forever to download.
I tried to view a Previously Viewed OPR with the same result.
I didn't have the time or patience to wait any longer.
I had a look at My Details and I see the compression is at the lowest setting.
Since I don't know what the compression rate is, do I have to change that or do I have another problem? :? :? :? :?

Waiting your advice
(With Patience) I am really trying but it just isn't in my nature

Hi Wini, I had a similar problem yesterday morning, but using ActiveX. All BMD's and census were fine, only the O.P.R.'s , so submitted a contact form. Reply was that it was my ActiveX. So tried Direct download, and Java, still no luck.
I saw your post this morning, and adjusted my 'compression' to highest.. BINGO. Who's a clever Wini then??

My reply from S.P. did not suggest it could be the compression.

Hello Wini & Ian,

Those OPRs are jpeg images and are up to about 1mb in size and it is quite normal that they should take 10 to 15 times longer to download than a normal post 1855 SP certificate.

They are already compressed and further compression can damage the image. Extra compression reduces the file size and makes the image quicker to download.

If the image you end up with is easy to read the higher compression probably didn't make any noticeable difference, so no problem.

But if the image you end up with is difficult to read it's possibly worth the wait to download it again with the compression back on the lowest setting and see if that improves things.

All the best,
Alan
