PDF Files

Post by Bob C » Wed Oct 24, 2007 9:08 pm

Adobe has announced a security weakness in both Acrobat and Reader under Windows XP (Vista is not affected) that enables a specially formed PDF file to download a trojan horse and take control of a computer. Within 12 hours of the announcement which included a patch to correct the weakness, spam containing such PDF files began circulating. I would suggest that everyone be vigilant and not open any PDF files unless you are expecting them. The spam has been identified as calling the PDF "YOUR BILL", "Statement", or "INVOICE".

For more information, see http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=3531

Please visit the Adobe site and download the patch if needed.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for that information. I'll have to check this out and make a mental note to watch what I open since I deal quite a lot with PDF files.

Regards,
