loging in again and again and again

Post by speleobat2 » Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:55 pm

Lately, I've been having to login repeatedly. I login when I first get to the forum page. Then when I click on " View messages since your last visit" Ihave to login again. If I want to view my posts, I have to login again. If I try to post a reply, I frequently get the login screen when I click on either preview or submit which means that I lose the message I wrote. If I hit the back key, I can copy the message to the clipboard, then login, then copy the message, then click on Submit and it goes through.

This is getting tiring! Any ideas what's happening here?

How frustrating! I hope Andrew will be along soon with a way to fix this. I am automatically logged in when I get to the page, so have never had to actually do it... in fact, I haven't a clue what my password may be, it's been so long
Hope it gets fixed soon,
Sarah

This is probably a bit too obvious but when you log in do you click the remember info box ( or something similar cant remember what it says exactly) ? dont know if it will make any difference but worth a try if you havnt done so .
I always have to remember my passwords for all the sites i am member of after i delete cookies, thats the most frustrating thing about cleaning up part of your pc
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracey,

No, ever since I got a laptop, I've stop having my computer remember my ID's and passwords. Laptops sometimes walk away too easily!

Carol,

Have you try defraging your computer lately?

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

Yes, I went through the mother of all clean ups about a week ago when my internet service developed a glitch. We did everything!

I had problems with the PM I was sending you this afternoon--took three tries to get passed the logins--which inspired this post. However, later when I was answering Tracey's post, everything worked fine.

Do you have cookies enabled for www.talkingscot.com?

Some sites require them. Can't really remember if this one does, but I think the symptom would be having to log in every time you do something that requires you to be logged in...

Good luck!

heymarky,

What ever you said started the problem again! My last two posts were fine. I signed in to answer you and got the main forum page so I clicked on "View posts since last visit" and got the login screen. I logged in again, clicked on "View your posts" and was able to move to this topic screen. We'll see what happens next!

The cookies should be ok. I only have a light weight filter on them. It stops the worst of the lot, but allows the rest.

Perhaps you should check my posting history to see if it corresponds to when you have problems!

Best of Luck,

Hi Carole:

Have you tried cleaning your cache of temporary internet files?

For those who don't know how:
1) On your internet browser toolbar, click on Tools. Select Internet Options.
2) In the new window, click on the General tab
3) In the section 'Browsing History', click on the Delete button
4) In the next window that opens you can click on the button 'Delete All'
NOTE: That this will remove your stored passwords, so you'll have to re-enter them, but it's worth that little effort, if you can delete anything from there that may be causing a problem.

If you don't want to delete your stored passwords, you can click on the individual delete buttons for separate areas of the cache
  • -Temporary internet files
    - Cookies
    - History
    - Form Data
You could try changing your security level to a trusted site for TalkingScot to see if that will override something that may have changed.

I'm no techie, just suggesting some fixes that have helped when I've suddenly had things go wonky for no reason.
