Have just bought a cam corder.
Did a bit of filming and then experimented to see if I could transfer it to a DVD-RW.
I did it and amazed myself!
However now I would like to delete the film as it is just a bit of rubbish and I can't seem to manage this.
I get the message this is a read only file. Are you sure you want to delete it. When I answer Yes, I get another message which says Video_TS Files on this DVD drive are read only, you cannot copy or move files over to this DVD.
I bought RW discs so that I could re use them!!!???
Help anyone?
Best wishes
Jean

Hello Jean,
With a DVD-RW you should be able to delete any individual item on it or even wipe the whole disc and start again.
If you try to delete it via Windows Explorer the same way as you would any other file on your computer you will get the read-only cannot delete message. You will need to use the software you used for burning the DVD-RW to delete what’s currently on there or you can just write over the old rubbish. I use DeepBurner, a free program, for burning DVDs etc but you may have Nero or something else.
I’ve never actually tried deleting something from a DVD-RW but if I open the DeepBurner program and go through the process I would normally use to add files to a DVD-RW I get to a point where the folders already on the DVD are displayed in a folder or tree view. If I select one of those folders and press Delete on the keyboard the item disappears from the list of files on the DVD. If I then click on Burn it thinks about it or a while, jumps through some hoops, and spits out the DVD. When I checked the DVD lo and behold the folder was gone and everything else was still there. Using this method I could have deleted the whole of the content by selecting the root of the DVD.
The process will vary depending on which DVD burning program you use and could be much more straightforward than the process I used. If I look a bit closer at DeepBurner there’s a Recorder item on the menu bar which gives an erase option without any of the fiddling referred to previously. Give it a go and see what happens.
Hope this helps,
Alan
