Maybe a stupid question

Post by sheilajim » Thu Oct 02, 2008 11:32 pm

Hi All

Maybe this is a stupid question, but can anyone explain to me about WiFi?

I am in the market for a new All -in-One. Epson has just come out with their Artisan 700 & 800 series. They are equipped with WiFi. Does this mean that I if I got one, I could use it without hooking it up to my computer? We only have one computer in our house so there is no network of computers. I would like to know before we purchase one of them.

I feel so embarrassed about asking such a question, but if I don't ask, how can I learn.

My husband is going to buy me a new printer of my choice for my birthday. :D That is why I am researching these new Epson Artisan All-In-Ones.

Regards
Sheila

Hi Sheila
If your computer itself has a wireless internet card (or an airport cart if it is a Mac). then it will worlk. The new printer will come with some software that should be easily installed onto your computer (probably a CD disc)/
This will allow your computer to "see" and talk to the printer.
Of course, the printer needs to be plugged into electricity and turned on, but it doesn/t need a physical connection to the computer. It can be in the closet or in the next room, but probably not in a metal cabinet out in the garage.

If your computer is more than a couple of years old, you may want to make sure your wireless card is compatible with the printer. Your system profiler should tell you what kind of wireless card is installed in your computer.

That looks like a nice printer, and seems to have good reviews. It is reasonable too! Maybe you should ask for extra ink too

Happy birthday

Hi Cathy

Thanks for the info. That makes it a lot clearer. :D

My computer will be 4 years old later this month. It is a Dell. I just got off the phone talking to the people from Dell. They said that with an adapter, (which the printer should have) my computer would be compatible with a wireless printer.

These new Epson All-In-Ones seem great, but you are right, the ink can be quite expensive, however your pictures are supposed to last for 200 years if they are kept properly. The quality of the prints is great too. I think that I will look at these printers in person over the weekend.

Thanks Again.

P.S. I once lived in Fountain Valley for a year or so.
