No room on C D

Post by wini » Fri Oct 03, 2008 2:42 am

I have been trying to save some photographs to a CD.
The wizard tells me I have no room although it is a new CD
What do I do?

Are the photos in a folder and you are trying to save the whole folder?
Maybe all together they are too many. Photos are getting larger and larger with all the nice new digital cameras. Did a snippet of video get on there too, that can take up a lot of room.

Try to put one photo onto the CD at a time. As it fills up, and finally refuses the last one, you can burn that disc and start another.

Hope this helps a little, maybe someone else has a more informed idea.

Good luck

Hello Wini,

Cathy has mentioned the most likely cause and best remedy.

A CD-R holds 700MB and a DVD-R 4300MB. You can right click a folder and click properties to see how many MB’s it contains, or if you select a range of photos within a folder the total size in MB’s should show on the screen somewhere. If you increase the range of selection to a size that will fit on the disc you should be able to drag the files into the burning program window. But otherwise:

You’re trying to burn a CD rather than a CD-R.
See if it plays music.

CD-R’s aren’t big enough for you.
Try DVD-R’s.

Maybe the disc really is full.
Check it in Windows Explorer.

Maybe the Disc is faulty.
Try another one from the same batch.

Perhaps your CD writer doesn’t like the brand of disc (El Cheapo?).
Try another brand.

You’re using a CD-RW and it’s trying to tell you it needs formatting and can’t.
Try a better burning program.

I use a good freebie called Deepburner.

You’re doing something wrong.
Post exactly what it is you are doing.

There are oodles of other possibilities.

All the best,
Alan

NO ROOM ON CD

Post by wini » Sat Oct 04, 2008 12:24 pm

Thanks for all the advice I haven't tried all the options yet Alan but will do.
I tried putting one photograph at a time, didn't work.
Have tried a different CD from the same batch.
I have some others from a different batch so will try that..
Should have said they are all CD-R

Thanks wini

No room on CD

Post by wini » Sun Oct 05, 2008 7:02 am

I have got as far as transferring from camera to computer.
I now have, files waitng to be transferred to CD.
When the wizard comes up it says 702MB free space
3.97GB waiting to be written.
There are only 8 photographs I am trying to put on to this particular CD. It is a blank CD and I have tried 2 different brands of CD neither of them particularly cheap.
I have put them on to a thumb drive/memory stick if that's what you call them. This had heaps of other stuff on it and it is only 1 GB
What am I doing wrong.

Hi Wini,

Does the CD wizard list the items waiting to be burned onto the CD? If so, does it list more than your collection of photographs? If that is the case, then the other items need to be cleared from that list.

Upon completion of copying files onto a CD, there is usually a question asking if you want to keep these items in the CD queue to copy them on to another CD. If you opted to keep these last time you burned a CD, then they will still be there in that queue.

All the best,

AndrewP
