I enjoy doing varied research on the computer for friends without one, for example, 'best buys', background information on something, a map search, an image search, 'What's On' info., a book search, a timetable search.
For one friend I have done a lot of historical research, eg. through newspaper archives, Scran and National Archive sites. She has been happy to give me a contribution towards paper and ink costs.
With a newish HP printer I am fairly going through the expensive ink and, printing off for example, twenty sheets of a Statistical Account of a parish, numerous sheets of paper!
I must be more realistic about the costs of printing but need help.
The top end of the price range for photocopying seems to be my local Post Office which charges 10p a sheet.
Has anyone worked out the cost of a page fairly full of text/a photo?
What would it be reasonable to ask for printing?
Mairi.

If i was your friend i would have bought you a black ink and a ream of paper ! I changed my printer to a Epsom because the ink was a lot cheaper (although i much prefer my old Lexmark).
Im sure i saw somewhere on my Lexmark information it said roughly how many sheets of A4 a black ink cartridge will print off

Hello
I don[t know if this is the case in Edinburgh, but where I live, there are usually several copy, or xerox shops near the colleges and universities that are fairly reasonable in their prices (as opposed to the ones that serve business and industy). Often if I have oodles to print, I will burn a disc and then bring it there, where I can do it for 3 cents a page. You could do this for your friend, or give her the disc, and tell her to watch for specials.
Just another option!

I live in Edinburgh & there are several places that do compatible refill ink cartridges for HP printers. I find the ink tends to be a bit "wet" but they are perfectly OK if you lay the sheets out separately to dry. The coloured cartridges are not particuarly good. Several of the supermarkets also do own brand cartridges which are considerably cheaper. They also do very reasonable printer paper. I hope your friend would pay for these.
