Does anyone use iFamily on the Mac?
Since I started my work on the family tree I have been using MacFamilyTree and I think the interface is great. However I really do not like the reports it produces and the web site data it prepares.
So I searched the internet and found iFamily and had a play around with it. The interface is different and took me a few days to get used to but now I find it equally pleasing to MacFamilyTree. It produces really good reports and a lovely website template.
So I now own two pieces of software for my Tree production. Which one should I use?
It makes sense to stick to iFamily however I read somewhere that sadly the developer died in November last year, however his son took on the upkeep of this. There have been no updates since then so I am worried that I will put all my effort into a product which may no longer be updated.
I could email the developer but I feel a little rude asking, "Are you going to continue developing this app?" !
Just wondered what others thought
I did consider looking at Reunion, however the demo does not allow you to import a tree, and that is as much use as a chocolate fire guard -- there is no way I am typing in a bunch of data to see if I like the product.
At the moment I do all my 'work' in MacFamilyTree; export it to a GedCom file; import it to iFamily; do the inevitable tweaking; upload it to the web --- all a bit of a chore!
Thanks for reading, and any thoughts appreciated.

Hello David,
I’m not a Mac person but a couple of members preferred Reunion when this thread was posted. http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... ht=ifamily
I guess the main thing with any software program is that the bugs have been ironed out and it runs smoothly and is reliable. Further development may not matter so much, however you’d have to always be aware that some new Operating System or something else could come along and spoil things.
I use Linux part of the time and hope to dump Windows eventually but there’s very little in the way of genealogy software for Linux and what I’ve seen I’m not too crazy about and I’d rather not use something like an emulator.
In case you haven’t seen it there are some lengthy reviews, comparisons, etc., of Mac Genealogy Software and a whole lot of comments on this site. http://macgenealogist.com/review-ifamil ... pard-2443/
This site is quite interesting although it doesn’t help with your present query. You can filter a long list of genealogy software by platform and various other things. http://www.gensoftreviews.com/?from=oldsite
All the best,
Alan

Re: iFamily on the Mac
Hi David
I have just seen this thread ...
Re iFamily Warwick is continuing with the development though he does not have the time that Keith his father had
you can check any news in the forum It is an excellent program and very intuitive as far as no updates ..... V2.511 is the latest which was Sept last year
if its not broke don't try and fix it It does everything that you could need and more Warwick is currently working on the i Phone version
http://www.ifamilyforleopard.com/
and it does not cost an arm and a leg
I have also got but don't really like Reunion but at the time it was the only thing but even the latest version is clunky to use by comparison to iFamily
I have tried Mac Family Tree and thought it to slow AND it looks awfull !
