Copy and Paste
Looking for some help.
I have always managed to copy and paste direct from my 1881 Census Disk into my notes section on my FTW.
What I would like to do, if possible, is the same with the 1901 Census direct from the Scotlands People.
Can it be Done? Or is there any other way to achive the same result
Thanking you for any help

Re: Copy and Paste
If I understand you right, you are asking if there is a way to copy and paste from the image of the 1901 census.
Sorry, but I don't think there is. However, if you download the image from SP to your PC, you can attach that image in FTM. That's what I do.

Re: Copy and Paste
Jack Spratt and his wife had it all worked out. A perfect marriage.
But in this case the General Register Office for Scotland and Scotlandonline and some others got into bed together and conceived ScotlandsPeople. SP has Scottish census images but no transcriptions. Scotlandonline has now excised Scotland from his name by changing it to BrightSolid, and is getting into bed with all and sundry.
Ancestry has Scottish Census transcriptions and would love to get into bed with GROS so that he can get his hands on her images but has been rebuffed. GROS is more interested in money than love and probably thinks the current imperfect arrangement is just too much of a good thing.
If you want Scottish census transcriptions that you can copy and paste into notes you have to go to Ancestry (not perfect but much better than nothing), FreeCen (for 1841/51), or the 1881 LDS disc. That’s unless I’ve forgotten something.
I transcribe everything that stays still long enough, census, certificates, newspapers, etc., into Word documents and then paste them into my FH program. That way I can access the information from multiple census years or whatever easily and only strain my eyes over an image if necessary.
I keep the census info in a Word Document in individual table format but there may be a better way. To do this I make use of copy and paste where it is available.
All the best,
Alan

For "transcriptions" read "interpretative guesstimates"Currie wrote:Ancestry has Scottish Census transcriptions

I do the same and it does make it much easier to see, for example, all the census entries at once for a given person. The images are sitting in a folder on the computer, sorted by surname, should I ever want to check something.Currie wrote: I transcribe everything that stays still long enough, census, certificates, newspapers, etc., into Word documents and then paste them into my FH program. Re: Copy and Paste
I use a rather ancient version of FTM and attach images via the scrapbook - I don't think you can attach an image via notes.
Click on the "scrapbook" for the person where the census is to be attached
right click the first empty image
select insert picture from file
navigate to the census image
click "open" to select image
click"ok" to add image to FTM
Adding images does dramatically increase the size of a ftm file, which may or may not be an issue on your system. As far as the census is concerned, I manually transcribe the images (as Alan mentioned) using notepad and then copy the manual transcription to FTM notes.

Re: Copy and Paste
Hi TDH,
If you are using FTM 2010 (and possibly FTM 2009 - but I can't remember if it is the same) it is slightly different...
On the Menu Bar at the top of the screen, Click Media then Collection.
Select a media file, then click the Detail tab.
Click the Links tab, click Add a new media link , then click Link to people. The Add Media Link dialog box opens.
Type the name of the person to locate the person in the list.
To link the media to a person, select Link to person only.
OR
To link the media to a fact, select Link to person's fact then click the fact you want to link the media to.
When you have finished, click OK. The person and fact (if you linked to a fact) are displayed in the Links list. Links to people are designated with a person icon. Links to facts are designated with a fact icon.

Re: Copy and Paste
Hi Trish,
If you go to the Windows 7 pages on the Microsoft website I think you can still download a wee program that checks both your PC and your installed software for compatibility.
It tells you which software will work OK, which needs to be uninstalled first then reinstalled after upgrading, and it tells you if any of your software will simply not work on Win 7.
