Mozilla and TS

Post by trish1 » Sun Oct 17, 2010 12:44 pm

I have recently had problems with TS when using Mozilla - it appeared to lose my auto log on (does seem to lose cookies every so often - so no problem there) but when I log back on - as soon as I go to the forum it has lost my log on - weird. I eventually got on by deleting my TS cookies. This now happens each time I try and access the forum. I have to 1. delete cookies and 2. log on

I updated to the latest mozilla but that made no difference. Has anything changed - does anyone else have this problem. It doesn't happen with IE but I rarely use same (just tried it to check) I also use windows XP.

Hi Trish,

Nothing of that sort has changed at TS since we moved on to the current forum software version over a year ago. The system deals with cookies, it's not something that has ever been changed by the Admin Group.

Any other Mozilla users out there who can comment?

All the best,

Thanks Andrew - I thought that was the case - I'm finding it very weird but realise it is probably my machine - just hoping someone else may have experienced something similar

Hi Trish

It may not be TS or Mozilla, I had that problem on one computer and I use Mozilla on them all - I finally tracked it down to my antispyware software. Each Sunday when the spybot ran it wiped all my TS cookies and I have to log in next time I used that computer. When I worked it out and allowed them, that only lasted until the software updated and I had to remember to do it again. I've changed antispyware software now and don't have that problems. Worth investigating.

Hi Maggie

Thanks for the reply - it seems a little different but tis interesting that I recently ran a full system check with my anti virus (I don't do that often) and that has been known to delete things that should not be deleted. The fact that I have to manually delete the cookies and get a completely new one before I can be recognised seems so weird.

Hello Trish,

In Firefox go to Tools – Options and click the Security tab. Is the “Remember passwords for sites” box ticked? Click the Exceptions button to make sure there’s nothing in there that shouldn’t be. Also click the Saved Passwords and Show Passwords buttons to see if your TS and other passwords are there.

Just guessing,

Hi Alan

I've never used the option to save passwords - somewhat paranoid I guess. However, I went to where you said, changed to save passwords (there were none currently saved) logged in and said yes to save .... the log in disappeared as it has for a few days. I then went to tools options privacy - (cookies are kept until they expire) did show cookies - deleted TS cookies - logged on - and here I am. It is like if I have a TS cookie it refuses to update same or create a new one. If I don't have the cookie everything is fine. Interestingly if I open a new window/tab while I am logged on - that finds the cookie - no problem. I will try a few more options - wonder if a new user code will work??

I haven't tried googling the problem - will do that too. I do use other forums & have no problems with same. It is probably the keyboard operator - most of my computer issues are caused by that person.

Hello Trish,

Any luck with this problem?

Does it make any difference if you click the “Delete all board cookies” link at the bottom of the TS Index page? I’ve never tried that.

Have a read of this page. Note the reference right at the bottom to the cookies.sqlite file in the Profile folder. http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_fo ... &forumId=1

Hi Alan

Having become so frustrated with this problem, I reread your suggestions & realised I hadn't tried them all - the "delete board cookies" did not/doesn't help, but deleting the cookies.sqlite file does solve the problem HOWEVER - it has the same effect as deleting all your cookies - I lose my sign on to every site I use - and there are a few for which I have no memory of who I am or the passwords. Thus said, as I am something of an internet wimp, I didn't delete the file, I renamed it - so I may need to swap back to that old file at some stage - Firefox created a new one and after signing on to TS it now seems to keep the signon. Wonder if I can edit the old file & just remove the TS data. Browsing the file in notepad - apart from the illegible stuff it does seem to list the sites I regularily visit - not sure why we need cookies and this file - given how it seems to operate.

Anyhow, a belated many thanks for your help - I shall have to get myself a new system for web sites and passwords. I used to use the same password for everything until one of my email accounts was hacked - that made me release my system was somewhat flawed - tis a problem with age overtaking the memory cells.
