pedigree resource files

Post by jintyb » Fri Sep 02, 2005 10:26 pm

has anyone bought a pedigree resource file cd from Family Search? While researching my Findlay branch I found most of them had been entered onto pedigree resource file cd 97. Do you think it would be worth buying it as I'm not sure how reliable it would be.My Ballantine branch is also on one of these but I have been told, by a very distant cousin in N.Z. that the person who did it admits he got it wrong.
thank you for any help
best wishes

Jinty,

I personally have never found any of my ancestors on a CD, however the genealogy club that I belong to here in Palm Desert have purchased many of them. Several of our members have found family trees on them.

Only think I would suggest if you do buy the CD is to make sure that the records you get are valid.

My only comment on this is that you may get lucky.
These files are submitted in the main my members of the LDS Church who are seeking out our kindred dead. The info we submit is to the best of abilities accurate but being human is sometimes wrong- I have original source certificates which I now know to be misleading so my suggestion is dopublecheck info but it is not deliberately innaccurate just by mischance -give my regards to Palm Desert I fell in love with the place after a holiday there & I usually hate the sun :D

Hi Joette,

Glad you liked our desert. Next time you are here give me a call. It's always nice to meet up with fellow Scots.

Happy searching.

I submitted my (very small at the time) gedcom to familysearch nearly a year ago and never had a response telling me it had been accepted. It appeared on there today. Since then i have discovered, like you do along the way, that some of the information is wrong . At the time of submission i was new to gedcoms ( i even spelt my own name wrong !)and didnt think for one minute they would use it, so it just goes to show they will publish anything !. I have learnt a lot since then and can say 99.9% of what i know now to be true  But never once did i believe what had been submitted by others i always double checked where possible. The main source for my wrongness was a lady Rena Fyfe Derricott who had submitted information on my family and much of it was right after checking but the trouble was at the top of the tree, which wasnt so easy to check (still isnt), and luckily for me i have made some very good contacts who are also looking for Geddes who discovered her mistake.

So in short be a doubting Thomas spend your loot and find out for yourself and dont believe others! unless your asking talkingscot that is :D
