Old Photographs.....
I have a few old photographs that are badly damaged. I'd like to have a go at fixing them using the "Paint" thingie (I'm real 'puter savvy). So far I've got blobs, and the colours are awful! Has anyone tried this? Any tips for someone with limited artistic skills? I know I can get this done at the local Photo shop, but I'd like to have a try at fixing them, just for the heck* of it.

First step is to obtain a copy of Paint Shop Pro (PSP). V4 is shareware, and can be downloaded from the net.
You need to scan your photos and produce a bitmap file.
You can use the 'clone brush' to copy a chunk of the picture to fill in the bald parts, magnify and paint in individual pixels. Lots of capability, but simple enough to easily learn.

Thanks Dave. So that's the trick! I already had the Paint Shop and scanned the photo's, but my colours are terrible. The filling in the bald patches sounds good - how do I get my husband's head in there? Just joking.

Thanks Merlot, I'll go look at that. My husband has taken the photo mending as his new project. He fixed up the background in one photograph, did a good job too. Not much we can do about fuzzy out-of-focus faces though (maybe they really looked like that?).
