I wonder if any of you experts could recommend the best (preferably online/correspondence) course(s)?
I am considering doing the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies' Higher Certificate in Genealogy via their Online Correspondence Course.
However, before I commit myself to the not insignificant time (3yrs) and expense (£1500), I'd like to explore any others you might think worthwhile. As my main interest lies in Scottish Genealogy and Social History, I'd prefer to focus on that if possible.
I did complete an online survey for either Glasgow or Caledonian (can't quite remember which right now!) University, who are exploring demand for courses in Scottish Genealogy, but goodness knows when that might be up and running, if at all. Haven't heard anything from them.
Would appreciate any ideas/comments.
Regards
Ellen.

Hello ellenavon
my interest in Scottish social history led me to this man in Dundee.

I wanted to know about books but i happen to know that the people at this place run distance learning courses on the subject of social history.

One of the User Group and singly highest poster on this board conducts EXCELLENT online courses in Genealogy, not up to recognised degree level but probably more useful.
P.S. I don't think this is advertising since it is a relevant answer to a specific question.

Would just like to say to anyone looking to improve their proficiency in family history research that the course which was recommended to me was excellent (I'm still wading through the wealth of material - there are not enough spare hours in the day/week/year. I want to retire!).
I'd really recommend anyone to sign up. The next course starts on 12th January at myfamily.com. Excellent value too at less than £20!
You'll immediately recognise the name of the lecturer.
With grateful thanks.
