Hi all,
it seems i'm not the only one to be having problems with activX viewer on SP. On SP recomendation I switched to java, which was no big deal, but for the life of me I cannot get copies to print in landscape ! My printer is Epson C64, and has churned out 100's of landscape sheets with no problems, can anyone tell me if i'm missing a button ? (or maybe a marble)

If you are printing direct from SP, then try instead saving the image to your hard disk (you should be doing that anyway!).

Then use Windows Explorer or whatever to view the image. When you enter the print menu there should be an option that allows you to choose between portrait and landscape.

With my H P printer- when I click on print in Java-I get a pop up cnfirmation-click properties and change features to landscape and click O.K.
Off message -have sent a p.m. regarding Mc(C)Lintock.

Hi Chasward, you´re not alone if its any comfort - thought all was lost, printer or software fault, until working in English records on Ancestry.co.uk (which now does a week´s sub. for a fairly reasonable price 20 census images for 5.95) and lo and behold i could print in "landscape" again!

David: ignorance strikes again; why should one load onto hard disk, and not just print out? If necessary, the image can be found again for another copy free? I reckon on putting as little on to the HD as possible having already lost everything there once. Suppose you´ll say it should all be saved onto a disc from there anyway very regularly!

That's always assuming that SP's server doesn't fall over and that all the data can be recovered, and that there is continuity between ScotlandonLine and whoever takes over this GROS contract when it ends if it isn't SoL.

Basic precaution on TS and all such other sites. Always but always save the info to your own computer

And don't you do regular backups of yyour HD

Believe me....server are rubbish. IT departments spend thousands with backup servers and multiple disks etc for a good reason.....they fail. I was out on Friday night for 3 hours working on one so always save a few copies, a paper copy of your certificates (nice and easy to read). A copy in a folder on your Hard Drive and if possible a couple (CD's are prone to scratching) of backup copies onto a CD/DVD etc once a week or fortnight. It sounds alot but it only takes a few minutes once you get in the habit. It will save you heartache in the long run.....imagine you lost all that you have right now.....
