Save as a Draft

Post by drapadew » Sun Jan 01, 2006 2:10 am

Do we have a way, where as if we are printing a long article in a text message.we can stop and safe a partial printed message as one has the capacity to do in say windows explorer..
I just lost about 300words just because i wanted to go back into an other webside to obtain some info i wanted to insert in my message and i did not in my ignorance know how to save as a draft.
HOPE YOU ARE ABLE TO FOLLOW ME?
Thanks

Hi TDH

I think I do understand....but I don't know how to save a draft once you've started typing right in the message reply box. If you're going to send a long message it's best to type it in a word processor and then cut and paste it into the message and then preview it and send it. If you want to add smilies or special code then you'll of course have to insert it after you've pasted it in. I too have lost long and involved messages and now resort to typing up those ones in Word first!

Not much help but a lesson learned!

Best wishes
Jean

Or you could visit the other website in a separate browser window and keep both open while you work.

Or type the answer on TS but regularly cut and paste and save in Word or your favourite word processor.

The problem with starting from your WP is that you may then have to spend some time formatting the paste to TS ............

Yes. I usually do that with notepad when doing a big text message just in case there is a problem with the site. Select your text and do a CTRL + C. Next open notepad and do a CTRL + V to paste the text. You can repeat this to paste the text back to the browser from notepad.

Ideally if you want to go to another site then open a new window rather than navigating the one you are typing in.

I just use my e-mail to type up any replies to TS posts, then when finished copy & paste them into the wee box.
But anything from say the IGI is highlighted and copied into Notepad first, then copied again into the reply i'm composing.
(seems to work better than doing it direct - maybe because Notepad uses plain text?)

I've my Home Page set to Blank so's i can choose a new page as often as i need from "My Favourites".
That way i can look at as many other web pages as i need without losing anything i've already typed.

That's the method I use Jack,
It also gives me the opportunity to do a spool cheek

Hi TDK,
Certainly seems to workkkkk okkkkkk - and aren't you enjoying yersellllll!
Now you can type at leisure and not be wondering if you'll ever see it printed!
Nae need furra lolly; but a kind offer, maybe the others would like one.

Jim, i've never used a "spool cheeker" - take it they're no much good with all the "funny" names we see in Fam Hist?

A good while back i used a programme i'd read about that checked there was nothing untoward on your pc - well it was free!
I didn't expect to see anything, but stared mouth agape as the number of items rose into the 1000s.
Help! must be a virus, but when it was finished i'd a closer look....
The cause was all my Fam Hist files with the mention of "sex"!
ie, Sex - male / Sex - female .......

I've never bothered using it since.... Jack

I used not to be able to sort my previous searches on the Scotlands People website when at work (in my lunch-hour of course!) due to the wonderful ( ) filtering software we had. For some reason you could view the list initially, but as soon as you tried to sort the list the filter went into fits!! The words it objected to were fairly predictable: sex as in Jack's problem above and of course, it really objected to my Dick family!! And the combination of those two words in the one web site was enough for it to add the site to its banned list!

"Context", I used to mutter, "You need to see this in context you silly software"....or words to that effect!

Best wishes
Lesley
