New software old hardware

Post by Malcolm » Sun Jan 08, 2006 11:59 pm

It would seem that I can no longer use my Epson 200 film scanner since installing a new computer and moving up to Windows XP. I wrote to Epsom and they replied saying that they do not provide drivers for XP. That’s like not being able to get parts for a car when it’s been superceded by a newer model.
Apparently I can log on to some distant American site, pay a hundred Dollars and take my chances but I don’t want to do that.
I know this a tall order but are there any suggestions out there please. I hate writing off stuff without putting up a fight.

Malcolm

XP has a driver wizard in the add new hardware section, get the comp to search for it. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

If this is the same as the PM from Norman I apologise for duplication

If Norman's PM doesn't help, try a Google, as it's quite possible that someone out there has written an XP driver.

Thankyou all for your replies.
I followed the XP wizard Stew but it concluded by confirming what Epsom told me directly.
That site you gave me looks very useful Norman. I'll give that a try. But, before I do, I have thought of something else. The scanner has an Adaptec SCSI interface. That alone cost alot. Their drivers only support Windows 98. When I have a little more time later in the week I will contact them directly and see what they have to say.
As it stands David, Norman's advice looks promising, but if all else fails I'll go to Google.
I wasn't expecting anything out of this post and am more hopeful about using this equipment again than I expected to be.
Thankyou once again

In the last few years I've had considerable success in locating such third party drivers on the www ................
