TS Freezing my PC

Post by Tracey » Thu Aug 17, 2006 1:28 pm

Looking again at Scooters census upload when i clicked i got a message saying there was a problem with the plug in on TS then my pc froze. After
a short while i tried to get into my hotmail address which i could and am using now but when i decided to go back and look in at TS i am freezing on and off again - my other mail address is still frozen.
Any ideas ? is the plug in having an effect ? i think something like this happened before with my pc and the plug in
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

My immediate suggestion is to uninstall the plug-in (I'm assuming you mean the Intellitiff one for images).

Then go to the Gallery and open any tiff image and you'll be asked to install the plug-in again. Do this and all should be well. [-o<

Sorry, the name of the plug-in I get is AlternaTIFF.

I might be mistaken, but this is the plug-in that always comes up with "tif" files when I'm in TS. I'm almost positive it asked to be installed when I first joined TS and looked at an image. Certainly, no other site I use uses it. With SP I chose the DejaVU viewer.

I'm not sure why you are getting the Quicktime viewer.

Perhaps Admin might be able to help there.

P.S. AlternaTIFF is great, because it allows you to look at images in the negative which often helps with deciphering.

It could well be worth your making contact with SP (the contact form route) as they have an extensive body of knowledge regarding such problems.

Hi both
My home PC will open all tiff files in PaintShop Pro as that is the default image editing software in that case. However, PCs at work will use whatever the default application is - in most cases, Quicktime seems to be what will attempt to open any image files including any tiff downloads from SP. Even though PaintShop Pro is installed on all PCs at work it is not set up as the default image application, so does not kick into action.

TS is not associated with any plug-ins as far as I'm aware, so I'm not sure where AlternaTIFF came from ...?

I'm maybe having one of those dense moments but I thought the options on SP were activeX, java or direct download. I've only ever had to use DejaVU with www.1837online.co.uk

Best wishes
Lesley

You're right, of course (so it ain't you whose having a dense moment). I made the mistake because the SP Java viewer is provided by Daeja Image Systems.

Purely because I am beginning to doubt my sanity, I tried all the sites that I've used to view images and the like. The only one that uses AlternaTIFF is when I open a tif file in TS.

Got to say, I like it, so I am happy to keep using it.

Hi,

Tracey is talking about opening images in TS. My images open with Quicktime on TS too but I've not had this problem.

Thanks Ruth i got lost in the above explanations  . It may just be one of those things. The only reason i mentioned it is because it is the second time its happened to me whilst opening an image on here.
No harm done i hope !

Although I still can't remember why Internet Explorer uses AlternaTIFF only while I am viewing tif files in TS, I must say I do recommend it.

It has quite a few features I have found very useful. It can be downloaded or installed directly from http://www.alternatiff.com/

I always download the install files.

They do require you to register it, but it is free and I have never had any junk mail from them.
