Thanks again to Rab, for instructions re inserting picture into the gallery.
I have followed your instruction and have now been told to await approval.
How do I tie up now, my query about the picture?
What I want to know is, the one for the death certificate, can anyone helkp re the wording on the place of burial "next to churchyard.." this is puzzling me, does it mean she is not buried IN the churchyard?

The other picture I am trying to identify the woman, she was my late husband`s mother, Blanche Eileen Mitchell, nd we have tried all known sources for her identity, cannot find her birth (she was aged 21 in the puicture in 1913) cannot find her father either, he was stated to be John Mitchell a soldier in the Cameron Highlanders, but can find no trace of him.

I can only hope therefore that someone may know of her and who she was?

Where was this Maud as it may give a clue as to the name of the churchyard. Andrew answered one similar the other day and it turned out to be West Churchard or something like it

Hi Maud,
Have to say it certainly looks like "Next Church" to me. Had a little search around and it seems that some churches had unconsecrated burial grounds for "non-Conformist" burials.

Death cert puzzle
Thank you Tracey/& Jean for suggestions.
En;argement I took of the original on the Scotspeople site word did look like next not west.
My request us the same as the posting on August 20th
(sorry I always get a bit mixed up about which board to post on!)
All I can make out is that the death cert is in the parish of Dean
in the City of Edinburgh
The name of the church for their marriage was the Parish Church of
St Cuthberts & Dean, would the churchyard for the burial have been the same one?
That is all the info I have on the church, is it enough
Thanks for your help, glad you found the item in the gallery, I did not know how to write a caption for it.

Hi Maud
There is still a Dean church in the West end of Edinburgh.
The area is generally referred to as Dean Village. St Cuthberts took in a huge swathe of the more rural areas around Edinburgh so you have narrowed down where to look at least.
Now that you are a confident poster of certificates & pictures please put up the whole certificate especially if you want help with handwriting. Being able to compare letters with other entries often helps.
I'm looking for a couple of Morton graves , probably in the same graveyard but don't expect to find a stone as this was a fairly poor part of Edinburgh up to the beginning of the 1900's.

Hi Maud,
I will stick with the West Church Burying Yard on the certificate. The West Church was an alternative name for St Cuthbert's Parish Church at Edinburgh's West End. This can be seen on the 1850s OS map at:
http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/to ... _1_sw.html
Then click on Sheet 34 (second row from the top, middle section).
The Church and Churchyard can be seen near the north-east corner of that map (click on it to zoom in) - next door to St John's Chapel (now Scottish Episcopal Church) and its burial ground.
All the best,
AndrewP
