Opinions Please.

Hi All,
I visited local PC shop today to look at new programmes.
I found:

1. Family Tree Maker 2006 15th Edition £40.
2. Family Tree Maker Collector's Edition £70
3. WDYTYA Family Tree Maker Deluxe Edition £30.

Any opinions on any of these, or what is your preference?
Cathy

I started using FTM five years ago, and it seems that every year they make money by coming out with a new version.

I've upgraded every year until last year when I purchased FTM 2005. I have no intention of buying any more upgrades to FTM as the 2005 edition has everything I will ever need in a family tree program.

Getting back to your question.......... I'd go for the version 2006.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think software that offers all the extra CD's seems only useful if you have American connections. I don't think it's worth paying a lot more than the basic package. I would go along with your choice of the three Ina.

Cathy,

On this computer (with Windows XP Professional) I have FTM Version 11. On my old computer with Widows 98, I have Version 7.

I do all my entering on Version 11 and then transfer it to the Version 7 (as a back-up. Is there a difference between the versions? Probably. Do I notice the difference? No.

When I purchased the Version 7 it came with 12 disks, haven’t found anything on those disks that have helped in my research.

PS – I also “back-up” onto 4 separate floppies as well onto a “Memory stick” and every once in a while burn onto a C/D.
