Legacy

Post by Jean Jeanie » Tue Feb 20, 2007 2:33 pm

I want to update to the de luxe version of Legacy.

At the moment I am using the free version 6.0.

I've noticed that I can purchase the de luxe version 5.0. from Amazon a lot cheaper than the de luxe version 6.0.

Question:-

Will the data in my free version 6.0. transfer to the de luxe version 5.0. without any problems, or should I forget about saving £18.00 and go for the de luxe version 6.0. Bearing in mind that £18.00 will get me 90 credits on SP

H Jean

Although I do not use Legacy - in usual terms in software - if you install a lower version than the software you are currently utilizing you normally lose something. The de-lux version usually just means that it has some extra whistles and bells. It may transpire to be a false economy and a source of endless frustration [comp-hammer] to purchase version 5.0.

Beware !

Best regards

Thanks Ted

I had a funny feeling that this would be the case

Full version of Legacy 6.0. it is then. I couldn't bear any of [comp-hammer] and then [drowning] because I had lost my data or thinking that it had been captured by [alien]

You'd think I would know by now that there's no such thing as a free lunch

Best wishes

Learned by bad experience myself. I use Roots Magic - spent years attaching BMD's, photos etc and all sorts to each individual's file as TIFF Images. It worked a real treat - all singing and dancing programme to bring all of my ancestors to life (so to speak) with all of the info for each one available at a glance - then 'lo and behold' I got the bright idea to upgrade my image software (ACDsee) from version 6 to the latest version 9. That one worked best with everything as JPEG files - so I converted the lot and deleted all of the duplicates as TIFF files. I never thought for a minute that it was all linked into my Roots Magic software - I lost everything I had attached to individual's in Roots Magic. I could have wept as it had taken me years to get to where I was. I nearly lost the will to live re-doing it all. [comp03]

Hence the caution !

Best regards

Hi Jean
As a Legacy user, I rather suspect that going back to version 5 would probably cause problems with importing your current ver. 6 family file - I doubt it would be recognised.
Upgrading to ver. 6 via the Legacy web site only costs, I think about £20. Basically they just give you a serial number whcih unlocks all the extra goodies on your version 6 (standard). Worth the money, I reckon!

best wishes
Lesley

Hello Jean
I havent looked at all of them yet but I did like the ancestor report that will print out the ancestors from a specified person in the file. I liked the edit capabilities that allowed you to add or remove bits you didnt want in the report. I ended up sending hard copies to my cousin's in Scotland that printed out their ancestors without having others like my direct lot taking up space, my cousins were chuffed. I have also used the Legacy programme to make up a web page, but havent got round to posting it cyberspace as yet. I will let you know if I find any more interesting reports.

I just had another look at the reports and found them good, I liked the relationship indicator which prints out an alphabetical list of the entries and gives there relationship to you, very handy. I also like the calendar one too.
