Keeping records

Post by Shortfuse » Sat Mar 31, 2007 10:16 am

Hello again
A couple of questions regarding records, information etc. This is my third attempt to work on my family history and while I've had a reasonable amount of success over the years I seem to get buried in a mountain of paper work that just keeps growing Do you keep everything on the computer or do you have a decent filing system that you use,if you have can you give me a few tips ?

regards sf

I think we all suffer from the "mountain of paperwork" you mentioned!

Best wishes

Hi sf
I think the only way to keep track of everything and have everything filed way is to spend a small fortune on in-trays (stuff to be typed up, added to tree etc), out-trays (stuff dealt with, ready to be filed away), lever-arch files, poly pockets and separators, and a good stock of filing cabinets or bookcases and then be super-dooper organised. I don't know anyone who fits that description! Ideally, a dedicated workroom extension to the house would be good.
I kick myself at least once a week for mislaying some important bit of paper... I never learn

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi

Building another addition to your house is a good idea. Building another house to store everything is an even better idea.
:D
