Ian ,
Thanks you ever so much for that it is great, I now have another avenue to go down as the valuation lets me know that the family are from the Parish of Condermot, I am going to Belfast in March and it was my intention to go to the records office there in an attempt to trace anything, I cannot remember from where I heard it but I think if I go to Londonderry there is a records office there where I may be able to trace some more information on my quest for the Murray line. There must be a Parish of Clondermot where they keep records of some sort (I am hoping ) and I would then try and trace the birth certificates of the children and maybe the marriage certificate of Allan and Helen and hopefully find out who Allan's parents were.
Thank you once again
Helen

It might be worth trying contacting the parish church. I found an address of one in Condermot...
Trus 1st Glendermott Pres Church
43 Church Road
Altnagelvin
BT47 3QQ
It might not be the right one, but they may be able to point you in the right direction. I had a lot of help from an Antrim church who even had one of their people look up their parsih records for my GGGrandmother

Hi Helen, Check out irishgenealogy.i.e for the following marriage.
MURRAY ALLEN KELLY ELEANOR 1833
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/csi/csi_main.cfm#Counties
Then search on Derry, and spelling ALLEN.
Sorry, should have checked all spellings of ALLAN.
Though roughly abt 15 pounds it would at least (hopefully) give you where they were married. Maybe a couple of witnesses. I have found the Derry/Londonderry part of this site,( and Brian Mitchel )who runs it , very good.

Allen Murray
Hi Ian,
Thanks for that website, I looked at Allen Murray and Elanor Kelly but the maths don't work out. Helen died in Greenock at the age of 64 in 1887 which means that she would have been born about 1823, Allan died in Greenock in 1878 at the age of 64, although there is an error on his death cert stating that he was 46 making him born about 1814.
The marriage cert I looked at would mean that Helen married at the age of 10 in 1833, Allan would have been 19. Unless Helen had an elder sister that Allan married and she died before they came to Greenock and Helen came here with Allan and the kids. This may also explain why I can find no trace of Allan in Greenock from the time of his arrival in Greenock. But the only thing is that on all of the children's death certificates it states that Allan Murray and Helen Kelly are listed as the parents.
Allan is buired at South Street in Greenock in the Murray family plot. On his death certificate he had a Greenock address.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Helen

Thanks
Hi all
I would like to thank all who contributed their time to read this entry I have found valuable information on this forum that has helped me on my quest to search the Murray clan.
I have now found quite a bit of information from the Murray's from Ireland and am still recieving new paths to venture into.
I would like to thank you all for the information that you have supplied me.
Just a wee thanks to let you know it was well worth signing up to TS.
PS I am looking forward to the 10th March at Glasgow Uni for Liz's seminar on Ireland.
Many Thanks

Update on the Murray's
Hi all,
I have been introduced onto a very interesting and informative site here on TS.
I enjoyed the Irish Seminar which was my first experience to anyone who was interested in tracing their family roots , I was a wee bit scared attending this venture.
I gained a wealth of knowledge just listening to the speakers.
I just wish I had introduced myself to the speakers as I am sure that I would have made more interactive contact with everyone on the day and not being a silent bystander.
I hope that in the very near future there can be another meeting in the Glasgow area where I can participate my limited knowledge

Hi Helen
Good to hear you enjoyed the Irish Seminar. There is always lots to learn here on TS - sharing knowledge is a great way (hey, and it s free!!) to learn more and help find those illusive ancestors and your understanding of the places and times in which they lived.
I hope you'll come along if we have another meet-up and introduce yourself - it is always a bit nerve racking turning up to something where you don't know anyone, and we've all been in that position at one time or another, but just take a deep breath, jump in and I'm sure you'll make lots of interesting contacts.
Best wishes
Lesley
