Karen

We're still fine for numbers - the room can hold 80. Just come along on the day - the cost will be £5 for those attending and £3 for those who want to receive email versions of the presentations.

Marilyn is collecting 6 dollars a head from those in the US who want the info and when she's got it all gathered, she'll send it on to us in Scotland.

Look forward to seeing you on the day!

Yes, so I had better apply for a place at the event.

Liz (or others who know the area) - Is there a station nearby that I can travel to by transferring at Queen Street Station? That way I should be able to get a through ticket from Edinburgh Waverley Station. In the finest Scots fashion (by reputation only) - a cheap day return. :D

I take it the building is the one marked E14 (across the River Kelvin from most of the Universtity buildings) on the map on the following webpage.

All the best,

Hello Andrew,

You could buy a train ticket from Edinburgh to Partick but this would mean a walk from Queen Street to Central and getting a train from the lower level.

The last time I bought a day return from my local station to Edinburgh I was charged just the same as if I had bought two tickets. One to Glasgow and then one from Glasgow to Edinburgh so it wasn't economical at all.

By far the easiest and quickest way is to take the subway (the famous Clockwork Orange) from Buchanan Street (accessed form Queen Street station) to Partick.

Regards,
Annette M

Hi Annette and Andrew,

If the meeting is being held in the St. Andrew's Building in Eldon St.,
then it might be easier to get off the subway at Kelvinbridge (top of map),
and walk down South Woodside Rd, then Park Rd. to Eldon St.
The distance is only a few hundred yards.
Was that the subway station you meant Annette? and a typo with Partick?

Hello Jack,

Yes you're right, I'm afraid to say I hadn't even looked at the map but Kelvinbridge is definitely favourite

Actually when I said Partick I meant what is now called Kelvin Hall (which is a much longer walk). Must stop living in the past. :D My sons always look at me as though I'm daft when I quote the old station names, especially Merkland Street.

Kind regards,
Annette M

O my g.. I've just looked at the map that's the old "dough school" building where I went to college :!: :!: I didn't know it had been taken over by Glasgow uni.

I'm going to spend as much time reminiscing (sp?) as learning about Irish research.

[quote="ps- Sheena, I do hope your old "Dough School" is still there somewhere....
Seems the St. Andrew's Building today is ultra modern....

Jack - all the University did was stick a front on the old building - it's all still there behind the facade!

Jack - I edited this by mistake instead of quoting - I forgot the power was with me! I am so sorry. Liz
