william and barbara

Post by mossiepossie » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:46 pm

I have a William Johnston and Barbara Duncan m.13/11/1813, they had 9 children in the 1841 census but none of them are William I think there should have been a son William which I found on the IGI index born 19/071816 in Monquitter aberdeen the family for several generations came from there. The son William married twice, first to Mary Byth and second Elizabeth Burnett but I have found nothing that connects him to William and Barbara. Can you Help? :?

Hi Mossiepossie,

The birth record is on scotlandspeople. It lists William Johnston as the father, but no mother's name listed. Witness at baptism was George Scott. Both of Williams marriage records are also available on SP. His first marriage was in 1838, so he probably wasn't living with his parents in 1841.

Regards,

Ina

Hi Mossiepossie

Using parents names for the search on the IGI shows the following children born to William Johnston and Mary Byth

Helen b 15/8/1839 Aberdour
John b 7/4/1842 Aberdour
William b 9/6/1844 Aberdour
James b 1/12/1845 ABerdour

Courtesy of Freecen we find this family in 1841

Village of Aberdour Aberdeenshire.

William Johnston aged 25, ag lab, born Aberdeenshire.
Mary Johnston aged 20, born Aberdeenshire
Helen Johnson aged 1, born Aberdeenshire.

Aberdour is very close to Monquitter.

Best wishes

This looks like them in 1881.

The birth place for William is slightly out, but Elizabeth's is correct. William and Elizabeth had a number of children (shown on the IGI) One of them was a Barbara who is the correct age for the same Barbara on this census.

PS. you should be able to find his d.c. on SP now, which hopefully will confirm his parents names.

There is a death for a William Johnston in Pitsligo in 1887 aged 71. Could well be him. Unfortunately inserting his mother's maiden name did not help in the search.
