glacken

Hi Lesley,

There is a Hugh Glacken in Derrygarve, Artrea, Derry in the Griffiths Valuation, the only one for Derry. My Hugh Glacken married Catherine in Glasgow in 1831. So it couldn't be him, a relative maybe!

There may be a link, but not sure how to go about finding it.

I will keep looking.

all the best

Hi Helen

Right now, having only started looking at my Irish connections very recently, I'm not sure either! You'd think, if you knew your way around Scottish records, it would just be case of transferring all that accumulated knowledge to another "area" ...but, heck, it's not like that at all, and I feel like a beginner all over again, having to learn the basic sources, the methods - urk! . It is hard going, and more than a little frustrating!

I think at present all you can do is keep these folk in mind as possibles and hope to perhaps follow up at a later date. There are good fact sheets at PRONI:

Best wishes

Hi Lesley,

I am pretty much a beginner, I only started last December. I have been dipping in and out of Hugh Glacken and a couple of others. Never thought to look at Grriffiths Valuation, even though others have mentioned it. Don't know what is wrong with me. Its the best lead I have had so far.

There is another ancester O'Farrell that I may have found on there as well.

Good luck with your research.

all the best

Helen
