Marriage cert info

Post by crayspond » Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:19 pm

Hello All,

My Gt Gt Grandparents James McFarlane and Jane Dickson married in Belfast in 21/11/1871 (This info was on their child's birth cert). How can i get a copy of the marriage cert and does anyone know what would be on it? Both would be protestant.

Regards,

Ailsa

Hi Ailsa
See
http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 4065#94065
Irish certs are similar to English ones, so no mothers' names given.

Best wishes
Lesley

I don't suppose there is anyone out there who will be visiting the GRONI in the near future who could look it up for me? :)

If you go to the GRO IE web site, whcih is where the record will be held in full, you can contact them yourself.
http://www.groireland.ie

http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm
"Photocopies of entries in the registers are also available at a cost of €6.00, (additional copies - €4.00). These contain exactly the same information as a Certificate but are only of use for research purposes."

If they cannot find the event they will still charge "If the record you have requested cannot be found, a search fee of €4.00 will be charged."

Due to the Euro currency, you will need a Mastercard or Visa (comes in handy for lots of things where there is a currency issue!)

Best wishes
Lesley

Just a thought - have you checked any of the other earlier children to see if the date (and place) of marriage given is the same? Sometimes, as couples get older and the number of children increases, the memory tends to stray a little and dates given can be a bit "off"!

Hi Lesley,

All the other children were born in Ireland. Only the last child was born in Glasgow where they settled on their return from Ireland. I was excited at the prospect of finding out where they all lived in Ireland by looking at the marriage cert.
