Hi rdem
I wondered if you had been able to work down towards the present day by researching the couple's children. When I put Neil BONAR/Mary into the IGI for a family search, there were at least 7 chidren given.
The transcribers must however have been vying with each other to see who could come up with the most original version of the mother's maiden name. I found: MANELIS, MANELLIS, MCNAILES, MCNEILIS, MANALES, MENILAWS ans MCNEIL!
A different name for each child!
Hope this helps.
Best wishes
Catriona

Hi rdem
Could I add Mennolly and Meneely to Catriona's offering.
I think the Irish invented word puzzles just for us to stew over.
