George Richard McCarthy .....

I am beginning to wonder if there ever was a George Richard McCarthy. I can't find anything forward or back about him. He married Euphemia Scott in Edinburgh 15 June 1917 and they had a child in 1919. His wife died in childbirth and the child was brought up by an Aunt. Nothing known of him in the family after that. He was in the Merchant Navy and from his record and his marriage certificate he gives his father as George Richard McCarthy, his mother as Mary Jane McGonigill and his birth as 2 Nov 1889 Dublin. I sent to Dublin for his birth certificate but they didn't have it. His navy record stops in 1926. Perhaps he left his ship in Australia or S Africa I don't know. Just posting this on the off-chance that someone has a connection somewhere.
