Italian in Ireland .....

Post by maggiehill » Wed May 24, 2006 1:44 pm

On the 1891 Glasgow census there is a John Lando aged 26 born in Ireland could someone tell me how I can find a birth details of this person to see who his parents are.

We are searching for my gggrandfather named John Lando who came from Genoa, Italy and went to live in Biggar, Scotland in 1850 at the age of 14. We have recently been told by a lady from Co Durham whose maiden name was also Lando (no contact details) was that he came to these Islands with two other brothers. I have found a Joseph Lando who died at Stockton in September 1891 at the age of 70, but I cannot find him on any Census to date.

We are wondering if the father of this John could be our Johns brother.

Hi Maggie

Doing a search on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for Lando deaths with no restrictions (year, gender, age) there are only 15 result. If you find him in this lot or any of his siblings then the death certificate should give you the parents names. Im not sure where you would apply in Ireland for his birth certificate although i am sure its on here somewhere.
