Moses Wellwood in Belfast .....

Post by ArchiveCookie » Sat Jul 07, 2007 3:42 pm

I have been hoping to locate any record of Moses Wellwood in the area of Belfast at any time between 1770 and 1850. He was married to Jane McDowall and had 12 or 13 children, all born in Belfast, most of whom moved one by one to the Glasgow area beginning in the 1820's. There is no record of Moses and Jane leaving Ireland that I have been able to find, and their last child, Fanny, was born in Belfast about 1833 or 1834. She moved to Glasgow about 1850. There was also a son Moses, who I've never been able to locate in Scotland. He was a missionary in Africa for 5 years before returning to Ireland to marry his childhood sweetheart, but I have no idea of her name. I believe he must have stayed in Belfast after returning from Africa, as I can find no record of him in Scotland with the other siblings.

Can anyone help me locate any reference to Wellwoods in Belfast, Northern Ireland at any time between 1770 and 1850? Full birth dates, marriages, taxes, anything?

Thank you in advance... :P

Helen, is there any way to get more info on the Sarah Jane Wellwood marriage in 1839? Where would I write to get a copy of the record? Is it likely to give her age or her parents' names? It's possible that may be one of mine...

Thank you SO much! :D

Hiya,
I have subscribed to emerald ancestors for 1 month and that isall the information that Icould find, I am sorry that I could not find any more for you, as you will have figured out by now Ireland is a nightmare.

My ggggrandfather and mother came to Greenock from Irealnd round about 1862, and have found an abundance of information from their lives here in Scotland but SADLY  I have not been ableto trace an awful lot of them in Ireland.

I find this site very helpful with the advice given from the all of the members who are all very helpful and friendly.

I am sorry that I have not been able to supply you with more information.

Kind Regards
Helen
