Hi mossiepossie
I'm not sure if you tried a search for their marriage on Scotlands People. That should give you parent names. Marriage can be searched up to 1931 so you may just catch them. If not you would need to contact GROS for a copy of the marriage, go to NRH or Park Circus yourself, or pay a researcher to look for you.

She is born too late to turn up on any available Scottish census - but as far as I rememer it is possible to view the Irish 1911 census, in which case you may be able to catch her with family. Her death in Canada may help with your search too.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Mossiepossie:

"Aren't we all?" - that was my first thought, and I hope you'll excuse the irreverance of it.

But then, imagine my embarrassment, when I read the post and found I may be able to help with the Canada bit - I live in Sault Ste. Marie, so if you need the obit, I can look it up for you at the local library.

Feel free to PM.

You have loads of info, so it really depends on what you're looking for. :)

Mary Jane CONNOR

Hi Mossiepossie,

There is a birth for a Mary Jane Connor, born 1910, on www.ancestryireland.com website. You pay £6.00 for a credit and that lets you look at 5 entries. It ONLY lets you look at entries of the same name, which is a bit of a pain but which can work out ok if you are looking at mens names as you will quite often find fathers, sons, grandfathers etc with the same name. A wee word of warning...... It doesn't let you choose from alternate spellings, which I found out to my cost!

I am also researching Connor, from Belfast, and have already come across a few Mary Janes in the 1800's!

I would appreciate if you could keep in touch with me regarding your Connor Ancestors as we may be able to help each other out!

Hi Mossiepossie,

Certainly if I ever come across anything on these names I will let you know.

In the meantime there are some wonderful sites that you could look at:-

PRONI have just revamped their website and now have searchable wills. You may well find some info there. PRONI are in the process of having all their Street Directories, from 1800 - 1900, digitaly photographed and they will soon be online (free). www.proni.gov.uk

Another great free site is www.glenravel.com They have some great wee online magazines of old Belfast stories and courtroom reports & the Troubles (but who wants to read about that!). They also have the register for Clifton Street Buriel Ground. I have found loads of my ancestors in the register and it has given me loads of new leads.

Another great free website is www.lennonwylie.co.uk It has quite a few Northern Ireland Street Directories.

I hope this gives you something to get your teeth into!

If you have a specific look-up that you need ie: census look-up (you'll need an address for this, but that is where the street directory will come in handy) then let me know.

Hi Mossiepossie,

I can sympathise with you on this search - I have been down the same road.
I used familyulster@hotmail.com back in July as i wasn't getting anywhere om my own. They were very helpful and actually went to the church to look up a marriage for me - i am not sure of the prices but for the info i needed i thought it was worth it. No harm in sending them an email though.

Good luck,

Ailsa
