Irish Adoptions
Can anyone give me a clue on where I might start to look for adoption records, from what I have been told my Grandfathern who was born in the very late 1890's was born to a girl from Glasgow who went to Ireland for the birth, my grandfather was then adopted to a couple who actually came from Greenock, I have his birth name which was Joseph Grant, and his adopted name was Angus McKenzie, he was named after his adoptive father whom I have been told was a ships captain?? Any starting point would be most appreciated. Kind Regards Marion
Researching McKenzie from Greenock and Murrays from Saltcoats

See http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm and http://www.adoptionireland.com/services ... arent.html , but it may be the case that records don't go back that far.
In Scotland there was no legal process required until 1930, - in the Sheriff Court. Before that, many adoptions were informal.
