I have a friend wanting to research family from Italy. I have found some minimal information via the familysearch site but otherwise very little. She is thinking to get a researcher to help in the search. Does anyone have any recommendations for same.

thanks

Trish

Hello Trish,

Sorry, but I can’t help with a recommendation.

If your friend can speak Italian there are some Italian newspaper archives online. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... ives#Italy

There’s also the Portale Antenati site but I don’t know how it works. http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... h/?lang=en

All the best,
Alan

Have you looked at the Anglo-Italian FHS - https://anglo-italianfhs.org.uk/

I only know of them through seeing their name in listings of societies, and I don't know how much they'd be able to help if your friend went directly from Italy to Australia, but they might nevertheless be able to offer some suggestions. Even if you don't contact them, there seems to be quite a lot of useful information about Italian research on their website.

Thanks Alan - I'll have a look (although you are much better at searching newspapers than I am)
Neither my friend nor I can speak Italian - so should be fun :) She is also not very computer literate, hence wanting a researcher.

Thanks Arthur, I did see that site - it said they mainly concentrated on Italians to the UK - & I'm looking for the ancestors of someone who came to Australia - but they may have researchers - I hadn't thought to check that

have you seen this group

They might be able to advise or recommend a researcher

Do have a look at their Links page - there's a lot relating to Italy itself, rather than just Italians in the UK, and things like help with letter-writing for people who don't speak Italian.
