Nancy,
Nice to see you posting on TS. Hope all is well in NJ.

Hi:)
With regards to dual citizenship, British & Canadian, do you have access to health services in both countries?

Dennis,
No you don't have access to UK healthcare if you are a citizen of another country. When I go home I take out a health insurance policy to cover me if I should take ill.
However, I have read on other boards where people who immigrated 30-40 years ago still go to Scotland when they have health problems and let the British health care pay for it. I don't know how they get away with it. Perhaps they use a relatives national health card (do they still have them?).
I really don't agree with this, as I feel if you don't pay into the system you shouldn't use it. The British have a hard enough time taking care of their own sick people, and they don't need ex-patriots abusing the system.
Better get off my high horse now.

Hi Dennis
My husband and I hold both passports, we find it easier to use the British upon arrival there and the Canadian upon return
As regards using the NHS over there, one used to be able as we have in the past, nowerdays it is available if you have an accident over there which happened to me a few years ago when I broke my foot. They even let me keep the crutches to bring back.
Have nothing but praise for the attention we received.

Hi Ina & Lizzie:)
I certainly concur ethically with regards to access regarding visits to the 'old country'. However, if a widow is moving back to the old country to live out her twilight years is it still the same as a visit? I had been looking at this particular site's page 3.

I have a relative who arrived back in the Uk after 25 yrs abroad.
He preceded to work until pensionable age & he has as far as I know never encountered any problems in pension, health care etc.He always remained a UK citizen.
My cousins on the other hand his daughters had to become citizens because they had been born outside the UK & their Mother was not British.
Even when they came home they arrived seperatelty & my eldest cousin was subjected to a humiliating time on arrival! I know they spent a tense few months & lots of money to Lawyers sorting it all out.
All have contributed to Scotland by working & having two children apiece.
My Aunt lives in the USA but thought of moving herself & her children home when their Father was killed to be near family. The USA would have payed her Veteran Benefits here but they decided to stay in the USA.
Their system is much better than ours you recieve money for yourself & each child but as the child reaches their majority the money then goes to the surviving parent!Instead of here where it's gone when the children are!
