Hi,
I have an ancestry hint on Ancestry for John Glacken b 1847 in Lanark.
It is for the 1870 United States Federal census.
Probably not mine, I'd just like to be sure.
Would anyone be able to check for me please.
many thanks in advance.
Helen

Helen what were your search terms on Ancestry ?
If you (i) put John Glacken Scotland Lanarkshire then it returns nothing for the U.S census.
If you just put John Glacken then it returns this for 1870 census which is the closest in birth year to yours that i can see.
John Glacken Peach Bottom, York, PA abt 1846 Pennsylvania White Male

Thanks Tracey.
Not mine then.
Did not think it would be. I get lots of these hints but only one ever came back as one of mine.
I do not have world wide access so could not check for myself.
Much appreciated.
regards

The 1870 US Census for about 35 states and growing is now available on Record Search here http://labs.familysearch.org/
There’s a searchable index for those states and the images are supposed to be unindexed but browsable for most of them. However for all the ones I’ve checked the image has been there. It’s definitely worth bookmarking for future reference as there’s tons of other stuff there as well and it’s growing all the time.
