death of Charles J. Wagner of Boston, Massachusetts

Post by topaz » Wed Feb 25, 2009 9:20 am

major headache. when and where did he die?

born 1855 Poland Russia, first to England (no trace of him there) then to Boston, MA.

his wife, my great grandmother, took the form for a death record and never filled it out or sent it in.

so supposedly, he died 3 Aug 1894 in Chelsea at the Marine Hospital, but there's no record.

so I'm wondering, is he the Charles J. Wagner who died in Boston in 1910? I think not, due to a family story, but I'd like it checked...and I'd love to find out what really happened to him and where he's buried. not at...is it Woodward cemetery where the burials were removed to? no, Woodsomething. my mind's failing me at this hour. need to behave myself and go to bed!

can anyone look in the papers for an obituary or check the Charles Wagners death records that are on Boston?

Annie removed first to Chicago, then to Nebraska, finally settling outside of San Francisco, and we've settled in Oregon, so a trip to Boston for us is not possible.
many thanks! this is a 20 year brick wall of ours.
oh, he was a mariner, that might help.

Hello Topaz,

The only death notices I can find in the general area for Charles J. Wagner before 1925 read in full as follows:

New York Times, September 7, 1902.
“WAGNER.—Sept. 3, at 101 West Eighty-third Street, Charles J. Wagner.”

Washington Post, 20th September, 1910.
“Charles J. Wagner, Providence Hospital, 64 years”.

I can’t see anything death related in the NY Times or Washington Post for plain Charles Wagner in 1894 or 1910.

Hope that helps,
Alan

It looks like the 1910 death in the Washington Post was for a Policeman.

Report of the Major & Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police, District of Columbia
By District of Columbia. Police Dept, District of Columbia - 1912

The major and superintendent is again called upon to announce to the force the death of one of its oldest members, Pvt. Charles J. Wagner, who departed this life on the morning of September 17, at Providence Hospital, after a lingering illness ………….

Hi Topaz,
Luckily, the Massachusetts Vital Records on NewEnglandAncestors.org go up through 1910. Don't think he's yours, however. Here are the details:

Name: Charles J Wagner
Place of death: Boston, 7 W. Third St
Date of death: Mar. 5, 1910
Age: 44
Birthplace: Boston
Name of Father: Thomas Wagner
Birthplace of Father: Ireland
Maiden Name of Mother: Mary Riley

Poor man, he died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Exhaustion :(

Regards,
Sarah
