Tartan Day Parade - New York

Post by rye470 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 3:04 am

The 11th annual Tartan Day Parade took place today in NYC. The Grand Marshall this year was the actor Alan Cummings. Breaking with the traditional tartan kilt, Alan was attired in, what appeared to be, a tweed kilt with matching jacket. Different!

It was a wee bit chilly, but enjoyable non the less.

The Clan Currie are hosting a 'Scottish Day' at Ellis Island tomorrow between 10.00 and 4.00. Should be a nice day out. If anyone attends I'll be in the pink 'Made in Scotland' T- shirt.

If I can do it, without making a hash of it, I'll upload some photo's from today's parade.

Hi Marilyn,

No flag I'm afraid. I turned this house upside down trying to find my flags with no luck. I did find a satisfactory alternative, my 'Nessie Hat'.

If anyone comes across any 'Tartan Day' pics with a woman in a strange 'Nessie Hat', please let me know. I would like a copy if possible. And if you do find any it's yours truly.

Anyway, Ellis Island, to answer Marilyn's question on another query.

I'm afraid it was quite disappointing on the whole. The only evidence of Scotland was the small pipe band and the dancers from the parade on Saturday at the entrance.

I think this has to be brought to the attention of the St Andrew's society of New York that they have to do something about their advertising department. I will try and correct this as one of the 'big high heid yins' of the parade committee, lives in my town. I'll see what I can do.
