What happened to Canada? .....

Post by sheilajim » Mon Aug 15, 2005 6:46 pm

Hi Everyone

I was born and raised in Canada, although I have been living in California for some time.

Looking at your list for the Americas, I realize that there must have been great changes in Canada since I left. Back then Newfoundland and Nova Scotia were part of Canada!

From the looks of this list, they seem to have become separate Countries.

:P

Sheila

This is a TalkingScot In-Joke. We have such a large contingent from that part of the world - Nova Stotia in particular, that the map of the Americas got a little bent in the process.

We anticipate heavy pressure from other parts, particularly Palm Springs and Florida. But you know what it's like - the Australians will be demanding their rights, next. (After Neighbours - NO WAY!)

Mesklin - thought you'd like to know there's at least one Aussie who doesn't watch Neighbours! I've never seen one episode! But..... I did meet a Scotsman in Germany ( ! ) who did not believe I was an Aussie, as I hadn't heard of Ramsey Street! :D Still chuckling here.

Hello Dave,

you as well! Nothing against Julie Andrews, but never watched them.

A few years ago, I was helping a user with her computer and I was in the driving seat, so I asked her to reach over and type in her password. She said, "It's beppy". "How do you spell that?". "You know, beppy as in 'East Enders'". "I've never watched East Enders". She looked at me as if I was something that the cat had brought in. Some days later, one of the men in the same department sidled up to me and asked if it was true!

My brother-in-law made business trips to Boston (the USA, not Lincolnshire one) and one evening was driven several miles for a drink and meal. There was a proud "ta-da!" as they showed him the place, whereupon Neil looked completely blank. He had never heard of Cheers let alone watched it!

I have never entered the lottery either. I like this thread - have any other people provoked lip-curling reactions?

Regards,

John

Well, John!

In answer to the question "Did you see such and such a program last night?" I respond "No, don't have a TV". There is a moment of silence while people try to figure out what's wrong with me and how I survive.
