Emigration to Canada - 'By whom the passage was paid' - help

Post by Roxy » Tue Aug 03, 2010 7:23 pm

A relative emigrated to Canada in 1925 on the White Star Dominion ship Regina. Apparently - someone helped me out with this - the details on the column titled 'By whom the passage was paid' on the passenger list is detailed as 'B. D. E. S.' Can anyone help with a translation?

Thanks,

Roxy

I'd like to suggest...........British Dominions Emigration Society, until somebody shoots it down.

Hi Roxy:

I thought along the same lines as Hibee, but couldn't find an emigration society reference for B.D. You can check out 1925 emigration records http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/lac-bac/search/anc

They are indexed by ship name, personal name and arrival date. You will not be able to view the actual document online, but it will provide a transcribed record, which should clarify what the abbreviation means.
