Tracey…

Each State has it’s own laws for acquiring birth, marriage and death certificates. I strongly recommend you start with a visit to www.vitalrec.com and click on “States and Territories”. The new page will list all the States.
New Jersey is not very easy to work with. Good luck! Comparied to Scotland, the US is in the dark ages when it comes to finding and acquiring vital records.

Hi BobG

Thanks for the links but i have gone down most of them and emailed relentlessly  When looking elswhere you certainly appreciate the value of S/P. There is an added problem with these three. They could have had different birth names in America and the parents names on their birth lines are fictitious - that we know for sure. They were bought to Scotland from the U.S around 1920 ish no one knows who by. One of them is still alive and wont say but there is a possibility she doesnt know or remember being so young at the time. It seems that unless one of us has a very long time to spend at the National Archives in Kew searching inward ship lists looking for people that could be them its going to end up as one for the next generation to search for :?

Thanks for your help
