Does Ancestry.com have Castle Garden records? .....

Post by grannysrock » Thu Oct 06, 2005 1:03 am

Hi ,

I have found what I think is a family I am very very interested in on www.castlegarden.org. :D
( The Johnston(e)s arriving 3 Aug 1872 on the Abyssinia from Liverpool - if you put them altogether it looks like my 'cousins' )

As far as I can tell there are no manifests on site and there isn't enough data to be sure its my family. - My question is would these manifests or any additional info be on the American version of Ancestry ? Or anywhere else ? :?:

Thanks Gina for the quick reply - I take it that is from Ancestry.com :?: (as there are some small differences in the age information on castlegarden.org)

Is there a manifest or a reference to one on the Ancestry site ? I recently took out a sub to the UK version , but it doesn't seem to give me access to the US Passenger lists - or I am not doing it right ....

cheers

Sorry, should have included that.
It's from the Manifest for the R. M. S. Abyssinia arriving at New York on Aug 3 1872 from Queenstown [Ireland] & Liverpool [England], Wm H. J. Percy Haines, Master.
The source is the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) microfilm, M237, rolls 95-580. In this case, roll 363, list 823, page 1, lines 11-14.
Regards,
Gina

Thank you so much for your trouble. With any luck your information will help me solve a little puzzle ...

I hope I can return you the favour somehow.

Best Regards
