hello Lesley
thankyou so much for your reply and the information i honestly don't know if there is a connection or not at the moment i had just spotted his name listed above the entries for jean c Zuill & Margaret Zuill who definitly do belong in my tree and i had just found in Lancashire( no wonder i couldn't find them in Scotland )as schoolmistress although both did return to Scotland .
and the entry for John looked interesting though it's really a James born 1820 Barony that i set out this morning to try to find yet again
on Sp son of William Yuill & Agnes paterson i need to find out what became of him to complete the line up of children this couple had and as one of his siblings -charles used a "z" instead of a "Y" .(jean & margaret being the daughters of Charles)
anyhow thankyou once again lesley
kind regards maggie

In 1871 the family are indexed as ZINELL even though it's fairly clear as Zuill
John 52 farmer
Elizabeth 33
William 13
John 11
David 9
also at the house the nephew and niece
David Scott 11 born Scotland
Jane Scott 9 born Scotland
In 1860 brother? William age 32 was living at the next farm with
Elizabeth wife 25
James 3
Helen 2
also at the house
Catherine Rollo 16 scot
James McGowan 24 ire
Thomas Reynalds 28 ire
John 40 was next door with
Elizabeth 24
William 3
John 1
also
John Black 22 scot
Peter Purvis 24 scot
Mary Purvis 20 scot
Elizabeth's family were (I think) already in America by 1850
However there's a conflict of names.
Geo Purvis 38 scot
Betrun (later census Elizabeth) 41 scot
Peter 14 scot
John 12 scot
Elizabeth 9 scot
Geo 8 scot
Christina 6 scot
Isabella 2 scot
So they seem to have arrived between 1848 and 1850.
next door there is a William 15 born Scotland
John 52 farmer
Elizabeth 33
William 13
John 11
David 9

Hi Maggie
Don't want to get your hopes up, but I'd hang onto that death - it may well be the one you think it is...I've seen deaths where I'm pretty sure its "my" one - if almost everything matches - age, timing makes sense etc. and as you say, the occupation is spot-on, I'd tend to think that maybe the daughter wasn't sure about the name of her grandfather, which I'm sure happened often - maybe the grandparents had not survived long enough to know their grandchildren, or in the stressful position of reporting the death of her father she has come out with the wrong name. If the mother's name is right then that sounds like a pretty big coincidence - too much of a coincidnece to write the thing off as the "wrong one" I would tend to think.
Is the daughter a name you know? If not, can you follow her up to prove/disprove?
Is the place in which the death occured "reasonable"? Does it fit with what you know already of the family?
Best wishes
Lesley

hello Lesley
thankyou for your message i am leaning towards it being the right one
and have been having a look at the census returns for the family in the 1901census Elizabeth who was the informant on the death cert was aged 52 so quite possibly she never knew her grandfather's name he was deceased by the 1851 census as Agnes was a widow in it He was a ploughman on all records found bar one (my posting of William Yuill a plumber!!)on this death cert it gives James yuill a ploughman mother Agnes Paterson.now her great grandfather was called James and he died in 1858 so possibly that's where a mix-up could occur?
In the 1881 census the family where living at 9 Merkland street Govan
Elizabeth dosen't appear with the family there is James age 63 head print cutter and Elizabeth the wife age 62 a Charles age 23 and a mary age 23 (twins possibly?)what is interesting is that to have a son called Charles could he have been named after James' brother Charles(the one that used a "Z" instead of a "Y")Mary is also the name of his sister .But also in the household there is a grandson age 3 called William Wylie now Wylie is a name that is associated with Yuill through marriage .William Yuill son of William yuill & Agnes Paterson brother of this James i have found??? married a Jane Baxter Wylie. why is nothing ever simple to work out
the area fits i can find no record on familysearch for a James Yuill with Agnes Paterson only my William &Agnes paterson what i haven't come accross is any of the family being born Possel???(according to the census)Dunbartonshire yes but Oldkilpatrick Bonhill Cumbernauld etc with Cadder connections too.
This needs definitly more working on before i claim him back to SP and a groaning
plastic card at the ready i think
Thankyou once again Lesley your words of wisdom sure are appreciated
kind regards maggie
