Post by maggie » Sun Feb 26, 2006 12:22 am

having had a look at Jacks posting of "one step" on the resources page
for one of my ancestors whos death details i have already from his obitury in the newspaper has prompted me to make this posting is there anyone out there who can tell me what the "B" stands for ?
the man in question is recorded as Fustin B Eid who died 1946-10-27 in Cook Illinois .I'm really curious as to what name it could possibly stand for .(Fustin was really Fostin )he was born in Penang and i havent been able to locate a birth cert for him yet
kind regards maggie

Hi Maggie

This is a curious one! Did you ever find out what the "B" was for?

Hi maggie

Can I just ask which data shows the initial "B" on it?? The obit? or do you have his DC from Illinois??? And what was his stated age at death???

No promises but just thinking.......

Best wishes
Jean

Hello Jean
thankyou for your message no i don't have the actual death certificate
i have an entry from the illinois state index that say's
Eid Fustin B M/W UNK 0030557 1946-10-27 Cook
the entry underneath his in a list of Eid's
is for an
Eid Ingwold B M/W UNK ------------(not showing it as i don't know of any connection and wouldn't want to upset any rely's)
But the thought did occur to me that it could be a Norwegian name?
and the Eid surname that i have it's roots lie in Norway and that it was strange that "B" was also in that one.
The obit i have from the Chicago Daily News
Eid Fostin B of 1924 Sedgewick Oct 27 1946-----------
interment Rosehill.
I have a picture of his memorial stone and although weathered i can i think make out a "B" .

Fostin B Eid
1891-1946.

Kind regards maggie

Hi maggie

Hmmm.....I wondered if the odds would be that the offical death cert might include a full first middle and last name. I have found it can go either way though and have a few mystery middle initials of my own. Since you have the index record of it I guess the final choice is yours.

Continued success to you!!

Best wishes
Jean

[quote

Eid Ingwold B M/W UNK 1891-1946.

Is it possible that its not an initial, but perhaps sands for something else, what does the M/W UNK mean? perhaps its Bachelor, Married/Widowed Unknown.

Personally if I was going to write down the name with a middle initial, it would be Fustin Eid B, and not Eid Fustin B, I doubt the B is an initial.

Oop's, I guess I just had yet another senior moment.

Rereading Maggie's post, I now realise Eid is the surname, and not Fustin.
Sorry, just disregard my previous post.

The M/W is male/white and the UNK means they didn't know his age at death.
I have used that index several times :) Not sure about the B. Sounds like a middle initial... Was there a different heading to that column?
Best,
Sarah
