Argentinian Site .....

Post by Thrall » Tue May 02, 2006 8:00 pm

Hi all, just to confirm what many of you with Argentinian connections already know, that Jeremy Howat´s site
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jnth/ is most informative with much information about UK settlers and many helpful links.

I found recently my greatgrand parent´s deaths from the late eighteen hundreds registered on Jeremy´s site, after hiring a professional in Buenos Aires who was very willing, and also most reasonable, but who found nothing. The same pro. offered then to find the gravestones, but with no luck. Jeremy Howat offered then to contact a colleague in Argentina who replied most quickly, having found the burial records and added

" Unfortunately in the 1960s it was decided that all graves in the Quilmes Protestant Cemetery which were not being maintained by a family member would be removed and as a result much information of genealogical value has been lost. I can confirm that the old graves of John MacLean and of his wife Elizabeth Crawford were removed at that time and no trace of them remains at the cemetery."

So now I can close that file. A little sad but not surprising I think.

Yes, Thrall, a little sad.

Thanks though for the link.
