Last year, I received a letter from Canada from someone who thought that he might be part of my family. After a bit of checking, I was able to verify that he is indeed linked.
My great-great aunt (I think that's right) Erodah Heath Henderson was born on 28th June 1876 in West Kilbride, Ayrshire. According to the letter I received, she qualified as a school teacher, presumably from Glasgow's Jordanhill College (although this would require validation). and emigrated to Canada in approximately 1912. It seems she subsequently met and married Frederick Dann in Calgary, Alberta. It seems they had a son Frederick in 1915.
Frederick Sr died in 1935. Erodah died in 1950, and Frederick Jr in 1975. The problem that I have is that, although the link to the family is genuine enough - the chap who wrote to me gave me too much information that wasn't common knowledge - I've been unable to determine exactly how and when Erodah left Scotland. Moreover, I have no way of knowing whether she entered the US and then travelled overland, or whether she entered Canada directly.
If anyone can give me any more information about her migration, I'd be very grateful. Likewise, I am more than willing to share Henderson information with any interested parties.
TIA

Welcome to Talking Scot.Would you know Erodah's parents names and what is the last Scottish census you have found her on.I see from SP she is on the 1881 but no sign of her on the 1891 or 1901 .
Happy Hunting,
HeatherH
Erodah's parents were Archibald Henderson, and Ann McDonald. She was born in 1876 in West Kilbride, Ayrshire. I've found her on the 1881 census (West Kilbride aged 4), 1891 census (West Kilbride, Aged 14) and 1901 census (West Kilbride, Aged 24).
All I know from my distant cousin is that she married his grandfather Frederick Dann in 1915. I have absolutely no information about when she left Scotland, or indeed whether she made landfall in the US or Canada. As far as I can tell from the information I've been given, she was already qualified as a teacher when she emigrated. If she did her teachers' training in Glasgow (as so many people did and still do), I may be able to track down some more details of her training history by contacting what is now Strathclyde University's Faculty of Education Jordanhill. However, part of that institution was burned down about 3 years ago, and it will be just my rotten luck if I find out that nothing from that period survived. If it did, I should be alright, because I've trawled their records before looking for other members of the family who also attended the college for teacher training.
