The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has launched a competition to determine the 'Seven Wonders of Canada'. Included in the 50 finalists to be voted on, is Pier 21 which served as the gateway to Canada for many immigrants.

Hi Frances
I'm sure many Scots must have passed that way. Thanks for the link.

Best wishes
Lesley

Pier 21 is a fantastic place. My daughter Megan is graduating from High School and they have rented the building for their Prom. There is a room set up with a cutaway of a ship that you can walk through it will make a lovely backdrop for their piccies.
The great hall is huge. when the metal barriers are removed it will make one heck of a dance floor.
We went on a tour with my sons class last year and they have a wonderful program for the children . They each get a wee passport and as they move through the exibits they get it stamped..
Many people have donated luggage and as you may have guessed many pieces had been left behind over the years .
There is a lovely wall of glass that overlooks Halifax Harbour . As Meg is very interested in our family history she is tickled pink that they will be using such a historic venue for their big night.
I hope it gets a place in the Top 10 .From a historic point of view it deserves it.

It is official- Pier 21, Halifax, Nova Scotia is one of Canada's Seven Wonders! Along with Niagara Falls, the Rockies, the igloo, the canoe, old Quebec City and Prairie Skies.

20,000 telephone and internet nominations were received and more than one million votes cast.
