Thanks for American Hospitality

Hi All
My cousin Mary has just returned from a two wk visit to New York. She was with a friend and wanted to see Ellis Island. However they took the wrong ferry and ended up somewhere else :( but enjoyed it just the same!
Anyhow, they then decided to go to Las Vegas, and had a wonderful time at a show :)
They had the time of their lives sightseeing, and couldn't get over the generosity shown to them no matter where they went.
Mary has a walking stick, and said when you tried to get out of taxi, everyone rushed to help!Hotel staff rushed over and checked her in from there, called for a wheelchair, asked if they could get any shopping for her,and were just so polite and courteous!
They were treated like Royalty from touching down in NY till they left again!
I told her I would let you all know, she couldn't praise them high enough :D
Thanks America :D :D :D :D :D

Hi Nancy,

Oh what a nice thank you note to us here in America, thank you and Mary for letting us know. Also let Mary know, that New York is so confusing and its a good thing we had BJ along on our recent trip, otherwise who knows where we would have ended up?

Las Vegas you say, bet ya Elvis was jealous.

Regards
Marilyn

P.S. For those who don't know this, Nancy's son Bruce is an Elvis impersonator and he may be joining us for the TS beach party.

Hi Nancy,

I'm glad your cousin was treated with such courtesy and was offered help. I have had to get around with the aid of a walking stick for almost two years now and last year when I had to make an emergency trip home for my mother's funeral which took about 48 hours all in. I had to take a flight from Orlando to Philadelphia where I too was treated with such care in both airports but the rest of the journey wasn't as pleasant. From Philadelphia next stop was France where I had a stop-over for numerous hours before my flight left for Birmingham, then after several more hours, on to Glasgow...unfortunately, in France, Birmingham and Glasgow I was invisible and offered no help...not an easy time of it especially when you're in tremendous pain. I was more than a little surprised and very disappointed, especially when I reached my own country...I guess I was just a bit unlucky that time...actually, I take that back...I was having trouble making a phone call at Glasgow airport and nice young man not only dialed the number for me but put his own money in the box...how's that for Scottish hospitality :)

Regards,
Anne H

I've travelled very extensively all over the USA, and every time I've been met with extreme courtesy, kindness, generosity and friendliness. Some people are excited when they hear you are from Scotland, although one lady in New Mexico said "Scotland? THat's where the kangaroos come from, right?"
seeking McColl from Donegal and Greenock, McKay from Antrim and Greenock;
Whiteford from Ballycastle and Greenock; Tucker from Port Glasgow, and McGinty.

Oh yes I love being in USA I feel like a lady there. No having to heave my luggage on/off the carousel always a gent around to help"little ol me"  I am fairly fit & healthy but I do enjoy this type of courtesty.Doors held open etc.
When my Mum,Aunt & I were shopping in Ogden Utah we were gabbling away to each other. To me my Aunt sounds American after almost 50 years there. This very rude man in a very thick Mexican accent shouted at us"Speak English you are in America now".Maybe we should have been speaking in Gaelic to really fox him.Mum was mortified as she has always prided herself on her proper speech! :) Usually people are very kind & helpful & if I ever had to leave the UK then USA would be my country of choice.

Yes Folks, sure its 'nice to be nice' :D
Civility costs nothing,as my mum used to say!

Mary wasn't treated very well by some bus drivers, when returning from Mitchell Library last yr.They just hurried straight past, obviously late, but the fact you had a stick made no diff to them.

Doesn't leave a good impression to anyone visiting the area
America left a very good impression :D

BTW Marilyn, you were saying young Elvis would be a bit envious, not seeing Vegas  Well I know just how he feels

Never mind, once the beach party's in full swing,we'll forget all our troubles :D
